Our Happy Girl!

I took these last night (our Thursday at about 4pm) shortly after Sunshine woke up from her nap. She is such a happy child! She literally passed out in my arms as I was feeding her a bottle for her nap - yay for progress! We tried to wake her up after 2 hours in hopes of putting her to bed earlier but this girl had different ideas - she slept for 3. LOL.

Check out her mad flexing skills - her head goes all the way to the floor by her feet - I think it's how she learned to grab for things out of reach. She doesn't crawl or scoot and so far, vehemently hates being on her belly. We lightly attempted to get her to try to roll over from her back and she pushed her back into the floor to stop us. LOL. Oh boy.

Already loving this gummy, teethy, drooly smile!

She loves bathtime now! She did fine with it the first night, but now after her 3rd time, she is splashing around and having a great time! The stacking cups everyone suggests to bring are the best bath toys ever!

So yesterday was a HUGE improvement over Wednesday. She's eating a lot more from us and drank way more - she may have been close to getting the minimum 16oz./day that doctors recommend ... it's about half formula and half pedialyte (which she loves). Thank GOODNESS I brought the pedialyte - it's been great to have it!

Bedtime last night was an improvement, but still not where we'd like it to be. I fed her for 30 minutes, alternating between pieces of bread and formula (she won't drink a bottle straight - she stops and starts and mixes food in with it ... sounds like me!!). I almost had her asleep with the bottle again but I think she could sense she was starting to drift and would pull the bottle away. So when we were done with the bread (2 pieces!) and she didn't want anymore formula, DH walked/rocked her for another 25 minutes until she passed out. LOL. She didn't cry much, so that was a major improvement over the hysterics the night before, HORRAY!!!!! I think the crying last night was more in protest because she didn't want to go to sleep ... but then again, maybe not ... LOL. What do I know?! We are slowly figuring her out though, and that feels SO good!

DH and I are definitely missing home now. We especially miss Angel and Lovebug. We know they have been so well-taken care of, but we are ready to give them big hugs and shower them with lots of kisses! We have Sunshine now, we are ready to get back home to normalcy! There are only so many things you can do in a busy city and it can get pretty boring to entertain a one-year-old in a hotel room. Fortunately everything is a toy to her and she isn't mobile - so both of those things help tremendously!

We leave for Guangzhou today - our flight leaves at 1:15pm (1:15am US eastern time on Friday morning) and is only an hour and a half. Sunshine's first plane ride!! This will be an interesting experience, we are thinking of trying out the bendadryl for this ride to see how she reacts. We figure that because it's so short, it's a good way to test it out. We have lots of packing to do - our hotel room looks like an explosion of clothes and ziplock baggies. LOL. We've picked up more stuff in Nanchang, but we're hoping that the stuff we have gotten rid of will balance it out. Wish us luck!

  1. She is SO happy! Can't believe it! I was expecting her to be different, I guess. Were you too? What stuff have you picked up there? You should do a whole post about your souvenirs. I wanna see what you were able to find!

  2. I've been following along your journey & I'm so happy for your family!! We brought our son home from Shanghai just 3 weeks ago, so I remember vividly everything you're going through! Our son (22 months old) acted almost like an infant when we got him (just sitting or laying). Then he slowly started showing us his "tricks." After we had him about a week, he was rolling over, crawling, etc. But it wasn't until we finally got home (almost a full 20 days after our gotcha day), that he finally showed us he could walk!! These kids are so miraculous (so resilient!!)!! Bless you & your family!!

  3. Nicole she is so beautiful and her joy for life shines. You are doing a wonderful job! She will crawl and when you aren't ready she will walk! Lauren couldn't do any tummy time nor hold herself up but is now only 2 months later running! They get so strong very fast. Love really does amazing things for these kiddos. So very happy and over joyed for you and your family! May God bless the rest of your journey!
