VBS Day 2, Rain & Ryan's Birthday

We started off the day with breakfast at the church building and then went to pass out invitation for VBS to local school children.  Unfortunately, I really wasn't feeling well, so I stayed behind and don't have pictures of that.  But by the time VBS rolled around, I was doing a lot better ... and then the rain came.  LOL.  The kids certainly didn't care though!  They were happy to have VBS with us under tarps, surrounded by lots of rain coming down. (I apologize for the blue cast on a lot of the shots - the blue tarp made everyone look, well, blue!).  If you look past the woman in the first picture, you can actually see Rudy (the Evangelist here in Puebla), off in the distance teaching a Bible study to parents in the stairwell.  It's amazing to watch this church work so well without a fancy church building, a band, or hymnals.  They use what they have, and it's beautiful ... a true testament to the fact that PEOPLE are the church.

After the lesson and craft were over, we handed out small prizes to the kids.  The boys got bracelets and the girls got beautiful scrunchies hand-crocheted by Karen.  They were such a big hit that all of the adult women wanted them too!

After VBS, the church hosted us for dinner in the building they rent.  Hotdogs with mayo, onion, tomato and carrot.  They have been so gracious to us - they serve us every meal and are so happy to take care of whatever we need.  Their kindness has been unbelievable.

It was Ryan's birthday today!  Despite being sung to at breakfast, lunch and dinner ... Adrian still felt a cake was in order :-)  Our group, along with the people there from the congregation, sang to him.  And apparently, it's tradition in Mexico to smash the birthday person's face into the cake after singing. LOL.  I'll spare Ryan on posting those, but it was such a memorable night and we had a lot of fun!

Above is Rudy (the Evangelist) with his wife and 2 daughters enjoying birthday cake - what a sweet, sweet family!
