VBS Day 1

I apologize in advance for the photo attack on the blog, but I just couldn't narrow it down any further!  These kids are just so beautiful, so happy, and have such a zest for life!  Even after they waited for us for 1.5 hours (YES, we were *that* late because of traffic .. Flexico at it's finest!).  We ended up only doing a very short lesson and craft with the kids today because we were so late, but they didn't seem to mind, thank goodness. I can't tell you how awesome it was to be with them!  Even in all of the crazy attack mosquitoes, the kids were energetic and engaged with us, despite the language barrier.  Many of them tried to speak English with us also, and some of them were quite good at it!

The church holds a VBS on this basketball court that's in the middle of an apartment complex because they are trying to minister to the people in this area.  They hope to someday plant another church in this area and VBS is a popular and successful way to reach out to the community.  Many of the kids there do not attend their church, so it was great to see so many people!  After VBS was over, the kids stayed until it was almost dark playing soccer with us and playing with the parachute.  It was SO FUN!

Afterward, we drove a short distance to one of the church families' homes for dinner.  They are actually new Christians and really wanted to host us in her house - so very sweet!  Although the food was quite tasty, it was a little out of my comfort zone, LOL.  I happily ate with everyone though, we were so hungry!  There were also several kids coming and going through the house, so I had fun playing with them as we enjoyed our meal :-)

Phew what a long day! We had a work morning and afternoon at the church in Texcoco, then spent several hours in traffic and did VBS. It was a GOOD day, but we're pooped!  We were able to finish the children's room painting and get the roof completed for the next step!  Lula and Adrian kept us fed with American food earlier today too(Adrian's french toast and bacon in the morning and Lula's spaghetti for lunch!), they sure know how to spoil us!
